I know what you must be saying- “It’s September," “It’s still Summer," or “Halloween isn’t for another month and a half”. But let’s be honest, here at Birds of Valhalla, we LIVE for the Halloween and fall season. We have spooky items all year round! We are bursting at the seams with skull-themed products like our best-selling car air fresheners, “Little Head” Hand Soaps, and crystals. Therefore, we are sending you this email now!

Part of our obsession stems from being a mixture of being former emo kids at heart and loving the monsters that go “bump in the night." I am looking at you, “Moth Man”. On the more educational side of things, Halloween is a pagan holiday, and here at Birds of Valhalla, we promote all sorts of witchy and pagan interests!

Halloween comes from the Celtic holiday- Samhain, where ancient Celts celebrated the harvest, the transition of the light period to the dark period, and believed that the realms of the living and the dead would intermingle (Bhagat, 2018). The costumes that you see many children adorning during the evening were adorned to confuse and ward off evil spirits. The pumpkin also represents the final harvest, however carving jack-o-lanterns wouldn’t be a common phenomenon for several years (History.com, 2018).

While some of the traditions of Samhain have been updated and in many societies, replaced with Halloween, Birds of Valhalla celebrates both versions and, above all, hopes to add a little “pumpkin spice” to your holiday!

Ichabod Makes a Comeback this Fall

Are you a basic bitch? Have no fear the closest equivalent we have to pumpkin spice is here! Ichabod’s Chase smells of delectable pumpkin, sandalwood, and smoke- a sweet and woody aroma that will impress any pumpkin lover. We are so sure about this that we came prepared not only are we offering Ichabod’s Chase as a soap, but it's also an air freshener, and a solid fragrance!

Many of you have likely heard the stories of a pumpkin-headed fiend chasing poor Ichabod Crane through the woods by horseback. The setting for this story takes place just 20 minutes from the Soap Studio in Sleepy Hollow, NY! Washington Irving penned a tale of a headless horseman in 1820. His writing is considered one of the first American ghost stories by today’s standards (Kennedy, 2019). This story's spooky and pumpkin-themed origins have made it a common theme for parades and haunted walks in the Westchester town. Clearly, some of that mystery has rubbed off on the BOV team and has inspired a seasonal best-selling soap!

Scented in Leather, Tobacco Flower, Raw Honey, Hickory, Smoked Oud, and Books, this Poe-Pourri soap will have you hearing heartbeats through your floorboards. (I reconsidered making this more pleasant for marketing purposes, but I have been assured, this is what our customers want). It smells just like reading a book next to a rolling fire.

Waxing Fall Poetic

On the subject of bleeding hearts, you don’t need to be in the “House of Wax” to get your hands on these babies.
